Samsung’s One UI 7 Brings AI-Powered “Now Bar” to Galaxy Devices

Samsung’s One UI 7 is here in beta form, bringing a host of cutting-edge features to Galaxy devices. One standout innovation in this release is the Now Bar, an AI-powered lock screen assistant designed to seamlessly integrate into your daily life. Marketed as a “defining element” of the new operating system, the Now Bar aims to provide personalized, real-time assistance right from your lock screen.

What is the Now Bar?

The Now Bar is Samsung’s interpretation of lock screen personalization, offering a central hub for essential information and interactions. Positioned at the bottom center of the lock screen, the Now Bar gives you instant access to media controls, fitness trackers, navigation tools, weather updates, and even live translation services. It’s Samsung’s response to the growing demand for smarter, more intuitive device interactions.

According to Samsung, the Now Bar leverages Galaxy AI to deliver contextual suggestions and actions based on the data already on your phone. For instance, if you’re preparing for a trip, the Now Bar might prompt you to create a folder of travel-related apps, provide timely reminders for your flight, and even curate a playlist to enhance your travel experience.

Personalization

What sets the Now Bar apart is its proactive functionality. Without requiring user input, it works behind the scenes to simplify daily routines. From suggesting optimal departure times to ensuring quick access to frequently used apps, the Now Bar focuses on delivering meaningful, actionable insights.

Samsung has also included features to enhance your day-to-day experience, such as a single-swipe weather forecast and a nightly summary of your activities, allowing you to reflect on your day’s highlights. It’s a comprehensive attempt to make your smartphone not just a device, but an intelligent companion.

Privacy at the Core

One UI 7 doesn’t stop at personalization; it introduces significant privacy enhancements through its Personal Data Engine. All personal data used by the Now Bar and other features is securely stored on-device, protected by Samsung’s Knox Vault platform. This ensures that user data remains private and safe from external threats, including potential future risks posed by quantum computing.

With encryption keys managed by Knox Vault and the added security of post-quantum cryptography, Samsung promises industry-leading data protection while delivering innovative AI features.

The Now Bar will debut officially on the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, set to launch early next year. For those eager to experience the feature sooner, the One UI 7 beta is already available for select Galaxy devices.

With the One UI 7 update, Samsung is redefining how AI-powered personalization integrates into the daily lives of its users. By merging proactive assistance with robust privacy protections, Samsung is setting a new standard for what mobile AI can achieve.
